Hello, readers and listeners! As you have probably seen, I have recently changed my artist title to "Dovi J." Long story short, I felt like I needed a name that was short, memorable, domain-friendly, and original.
Sure, not much is wrong with David Marcus Webb, Jr., but if I am at a show or an open mic, and at the end up my set I say, "Thanks for having me, I'm David Marcus Webb, Jr., you can find me on my website, davidmarcuswebbmusic.weebly.com, or my Facebook under the same name. Thanks!" For one, people have short memories. With a number of different artists coming and going off of the stage, who are they going to remember? What name will be individual enough to stick in their memory throughout the night?
Also, I wanted it to be memorable. I did not want a common name because they are, well, common. I wanted a title that would make brows furrow. I wanted a name that was distinct, and original enough to (most likely) encounter little competition in the field of "closeness of sound."
I also wanted a name that was short enough for a domain name. Sure, URL's can be as long as they would like, but I wanted to be able to say (a few short syllables) . com.
As you may know, David is a Hebrew name. "Dovid" is a form of David in the Ashkenazi dialect of Hebrew. Just like David can be shortened into "Dave" or "Davey," Dovid can be shortened into "Dovi." Along with that, I wanted a touch more of originality, so I kept the "J" from the "Junior" in my name.
Well, there's one of the first big changes in 2016! As I said, new artist, new year! There are exciting things coming, folks :)
Be on the lookout for a new cover posting this week!
Have a great week :)
